Sharing a 8 hour train ride on a top story of a three story bunk bed with another girl- I would not overly recommend - There was a mix up with beds and the two beds we were promised turned into one! I stared at some guys feet that were just millimeters away from my head.. ba ha.
Ok soooooooo I almost died at Howarh Train station yesterday.
I went out to Serempore (the Ganges Harbor outlet, 1 hour train ride from Kolkata) with some people and John Osbourne (all those who know him, will understand my pain).
The story goes.. as we were approaching the platform to catch our train- the train was pulled away...so naturally John started running alongside the train (that was getting faster and faster) and told us all to jump on.. which I did (as I was at the front).. to the surprise of the screaming Indian crowd (later I found out they were screaming for me to stop!). But the thing is the other people I was travelling and running along side the train with -were not going to make it... so John then proceeded to tell me to GET OFF ..
I KNOW.. GET OFF the blimpn MOVING TRAIN.. So I did- I actually jumped off a moving train.. ..falling, half running- the concrete introducing it's self to my face.. It's a miracle I didn't loose my legs in between the train and the platform.. or died.
The funny thing was.. because we were making such a commotion.. the train actually STOPPED for us.. man the privileges of being white aye.. don't think many Indians has witnessed a white woman train jumping thou.. lol never again... think I'll just wait for the next one thanks.
